Today Eric turned 20 years old. What? 20??? We had a fun afternoon on the Segways. We hit the trails around Tempe Town Lake. Here are some things I really like about Eric. (Thesis statement) I like that Eric is seriously such a kind person that he doesn't say mean or negative things about anybody. I am trying to take this example and be like that too. I like Eric for his ability to stick with things. We were watching a video of Eric's old band giving a backyard concert. I remember hearing those bits and pieces of songs over and over wafting up from the basement. Then, at the concert, he had it so down, he could just play, and enjoy it. I appreciate that kind of determination. I also like that Eric works his magic at school, letting his natural born intelligence come alive and seeing that there is joy in learning. He might not admit it now, as finals loom overhead. But I do see that without the obstacles that slow down many a teenager, he might admit to finding a sense of accomplishment in doing first rate college work. And another thing. Eric is a very important person in our family. When he is with us he makes us feel good to be around him. When he leaves, he leaves us wanting more. Eric is a quiet, thoughtful person. But when he laughs, he laughs, and everyone laughs too because he is also pretty funny. So, today I say to Eric not just Happy Birthday. I say Eric, you are not just kid #4 in this family. You are not just the easygoing one who doesn't want to impose on anyone. You just happen to be one of my favorite people. I pretty much like you a lot. I look forward to knowing you for a really long time. You are more dear to me than you will ever know. Love, Ma P.S. Thanks for letting me say the mushy stuff. P.S. I love You
