The girl at Walmart

As usual, I was in a hurry.
On a mission.
I knew exactly what I wanted and where it was in the superstore. So, I started up the main artery, determined to avoid the Christmas browsers and get in/out in record time.
There was a lady on the fringe of the wide aisle, parked with her cart, browsing the temptations that rim the route. I didn't look; I was on a mission!
But as I passed, I saw out of the corner of my eye, shoes and a coat. More importantly, I sensed a presence, something very familiar. As I passed, I looked over my shoulder, still at a brisk pace.
There she was!
My best friend. The person I most love to see in all the world. It gave me a sweet sensation, even a thrill.
What was she doing there? She was supposed to be somewhere else.
So was I.
But there we were, smiling and talking about how great it was to see each other on that aisle. At Walmart. On a Tuesday.
After all, we hadn't seen each other in, oh, at least 47 minutes.

Our secret love affair has been found out! And I try to stay out of big Walmart as much as possible. It reminds me of when we serendipitously met at Frys and got our flu shots. I guess after 34 years our shopping patterns have mysteriously been synchronized. Here's to more chance meetings, friend.
