You'll never guess what happened six years ago this day...
Bennett was born! We knew it was going to happen soon,
but when we heard that Mom and Dad were at the hospital,
we got so excited. We could hardly wait. Bennett was so
happy and warm and snug as a bug--it took a long time for
him to want to be born. I remember Boston was having a
huge snowstorm. They called it the Blizzard of 2005. So much
snow that Mom was worried about getting to the hospital. Dad
was sure they could just ask the nice MIT policemen for a ride. So finally, here came Bennett! Everyone
was so happy and excited. You are Grandma and Grandpa Smith's very first Grandchild. That makes you very special. Grandma Schroeder came to visit you first. Then Grandma Smith came. Boston was a very cold place that day. I got off the plane and waited for your Dad to pick me up at the airport. He had some trouble getting there so finally I took a taxi to your very first home. It was one o'clock in the morning. The roads were still covered in snow and ice. When I got there I saw the cutest baby I had ever seen. I couldn't stop holding you and looking at your face. I saw all of the things you will grow up to be--kind, sweet, smart, handsome. All right there in your sweet little baby face. And now, you are six years old! It is fun to see you growing up. I like the way you love your brother and sister. I like to see you play and imagine. I like to hear your voice--it reminds me so much of your Daddy's voice when he was little. You are such an awesome kid. Happy Birthday Bennett!!!! Love, Grandma Smith
