Eric and Maddie surprised me on Saturday, February 5, with a picnic lunch and a hike at Usery Park for my birthday gift. Other willing participants included Mom, Leanne, Mitchell, Blake and Fender.
I am still not entirely certain that the whole thing wasn't mocking me, but I simply don't care because it was a great day!
We didn't quite make it to the Wind Cave (a misleading label for a larger-than-average indentation in the rock). But we did make it far enough to see this breathtaking view of.... Apache Junction and beyond.
To paraphrase Sundance, "People come from miles around just to stand where we are now."
Many thanks to my wonderful wife and children who are the joy and crowning achievement of my life.

I would like to just mention that Mitchell was actually not present for the hike. And that it was awesome.
Awesome! I wish I was there.
